Lisburn Linen Centre

Lisburn Museum & Linen Centre
Market Square, Lisburn

Cost: £3.1m
Lisburn Borough Council

The Linen Centre was designed as a modernist extension to the Grade A listed Assembly Rooms in the centre of the Market Square Conservation Area.

The four floors of accommodation are restrained within the scale of building deemed appropriate to compliment the listed building. With a basement and attic storey, the extension is designed with stair towers to articulate the massing. The glazed link allows the Assembly Rooms to sit with it's reinstated fourth elevation and exposed earlier tower linked to the extension at first floor level by a bridge.

It's uncompromising but appropriate design earned many design awards as well as the prestigious Europa Nostra Award for modernism in a conservation setting.
